5th gen hb wing/spoiler just for looks?
you guys know that duckbill spoiler, pretty much the only one you can get for a hb besides that middle one...... functional at high speeds or just for looks?
no its not functional, just about every wing on the market is astetics only. You would have to be using one of those larger aluminum spoilers and be going over 100+ to receive any downforce. Which brings me to the next point, you will NEVER need downforce on a street driven car, exspecialy a FWD street driven car. Even if it was a weekend racer at the strip, you would never experience any benifit from a wing.
All that being said, the mugen carbon fiber rear wing is sexy as hell

What a spoiler does-provide downforce to the car directly over where it is positioned
why-to have traction at high speeds ( cornering )
Question--On a front wheel drive car, why would you want to apply downforce to the non-driving wheels that don't move the car?
Awnser--You wouldn't want to apply downforce anywhere on the car that could create drag--i.e.-on a front wheel drive car, you wouldn't want downforce over the rear wheels...you would want downforce on the front wheels...
So if you absolutely have to have a spoiler, and you have a front wheel drive car ( anyone in this forum ) do yourself a favor, and mount it where it will actually do you some good...on your hood, set just infront of the center caps on your wheels...
This will also do the rest of us quite well also...since you won't be able to see over your dumbass spoiler, you'll wreck, hopefully remove yourself from the gene pool, and help the rest of us by being one less dipshit with a spoiler on a frontwheel drive...
Thank you and goodnight...tip your waitresses

obviously there pretty pointless. but they wont even help a little downforce on the rear tires to help them grip on turns maybe?
Wasn't trying to be a d*ck, it's just the spoiler question is usually followed by, "How much horsepower will my NOS stickers get me?"
For a spoiler to do anything, you need:
1-rear wheel drive
2-110 mph+
3-wind tunnel for tuning angle of wing
Other than professional race teams ( many of which NEVER use spoilers ) none of us rally have the need or means to use a spoiler properly.
But if it's the look you're going for, why not if it's just for looks.
I'm just more about go, rather than show...

ACTUALLY on front wheel drive cars the spoiler does 1 extra thing , it reduces rear bounce do to updrafts even @ speeds of 55+ at 65 mph the air going under the car is trying to lift the rear of the car so the rear spoiler is compensating for this. The rear ends of honda's are very light and have a tendancy for high speed bounce. With a real spoiler, this would be reduced by the constant air flow directed correctly, but as was stated before most of the spoilers made now are cosmetic. Which means no one ever puts them in a wind tunnel and tunes them if this was done you could get the optimal down force with minimal drag or resistance
so unless you can correctly tune a rear spoiler its cosmetic and also slows you down
take a look at porsche they now have the little wing thing that comes out depending on the speed, this has been tested on a wind tunnel and as you can see it is barely out @ 65 mph but @ 80+ it is fully extended
