engine problem
Ok i just bought a 97 civic for 500 bones sight unseen with the intent to fix up and sell. After the purchase I found out that the car has a B18B motor in it along with a bunch of other goodies. But anyway my questions is the motor harness was choped up by whom ever put the motor in it. I have gone through and soldered up all the wires that were simply twisted and electrical taped together, so much fun. But my question is there is a sensor that has no plug on it. It sits on the intake below the plenum all the way on the right hand side. I want to know what it is and how should i go about hooking it up. My other question is being the car is a 97 and as far as I can tell B18B's are mostly OBD I motors how can I tell if it still has the OBD II motor in it. Thanks to anyone who can help me with this because this harness is all sorts of Flucked up and I don't know how they got this thing to run.
B18B is an OBDII motor. An engine is an engine just check the ECU to see what model it's from that's what is controlling it. Or if that's too much work see if there's two O2 sensors and unplug the one after the catalytic converter, if your check engine light comes on you know it's working. Oh and doing this leaves the CEL on for about 30 miles.
ok the only problem is the CEL is always on and the motor runs a little on the rich side. when I try and run codes it doesn't give me anything, im going to get the ECU number so I can match it up to a model. But either way I still need to know what the plug on the intake is I think its an air temp sensor but I am not sure. thankyou again for applying.
Yeah its amazing, I looked through the car its got Ebach coil overs Cold Air Intake, strut bars front and rear, the B18B motor, and then the kid gave me a body kit he bought for it and he sold me the 18s he had on it for another 100 bucks... and yes I did make sure the car wasn't stolen :P.

...props on the cheep deal
thanks for the props but does anyone know how i can go about solving this problem? This is my first honda, I am a Chevy guy that likes carbs and no computers so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Ok I have found a picture of the sensor I was wondering about. Im away at college and Have to depend on my brother to run into the yard to take a picture of the ECU for me so i can read the numbers off of it. either way what should I do about this sensor? would it make sense to get an un butchered one and replace the choped one thats on it? thanks again for the help
