Default how often should the tranny be serviced?

I was curious, how often should one service their tranny? you know flush, bearing replacement, syncro replacement etc... i just want to keep my car in top running condition and i know the tranny is one of the hardest working components on a car.

actually ur spark plugs are the hardset working. i would just flush it out and change the fluid every 15k or so. auto trannys have a filter that needs changed now and then to keep it in good shape

Mr. Ichishima recommends changing the manual transmission fluid every time you change your oil as it is under much greater strain than the engine oil.

Honda says every 30k, or 15k in harsh environments. I change the fluid every oil change with honda MTF and haven't had a problem yet with any transmission.

Bearings and syncro's aren't replaced until a rebuild is necessary.

30K.

Changing your MTF with every oil change is flat out ludicrous. You are gaining absolutely nothing by doing that. That's just like changing your oil every 1000 miles.

the trans oil is under much worse abuse than the engine oil.

First it doesn't get filtered

and second it is not pressurized.

Engine oil is cleaned and forced to lubricate.

Trans oil stays dirty and isn't forced to do anything.

For a daily driver, of course every oil change isn't necessary, but if you use your car at the track, then I would change it before and after every track day.

Mr. Ishichima (top honda engineer and owner of spoon) gives a bunch more reasons why it is smart to change it every time in one of the best motoring videos

tranny fluid doesnt break down as fast as normal engine oil so its not necessary to change it every oil change or even every other oil change. change the tranny fluid every 30k and you'll be fine if you have a manual tranny. change it every 15k or so with an auto tranny.

Do you go to the track???

I'm pretty sure last time I changed mine it had only 350miles on it and it was burnt to hell 50 track miles and 300 too and from the track

Maybe I drive harder than the average person... I dunno. I just know mine is shot after one hard driving session. Just like brake fluid, you have to change that after every track session

Mr. Ishichima :lmfao: Doesn't he have a first name or something? Makes anyone who tries to quote him sounds like a little kid. I'd just call him Ishichima ... or Ish ...sorry couldn't help it. No seriously Bambbrose, try to refer to him as spoon's CEO or eng. Ishichima ...

Peace
