Default 7.5" wheels too wide on Civic/EL

Hi everyone. First post here. I stop by every once in a while for info, but had never registered.

My question is, I have a 1999 1.6EL, which should be the same as a 1999 Civic in this case, and need to buy new wheels. The ones I want (Axis Reverb 17") only come in 7.5 width.

Is this too wide? Will they fit, but cause problems?

Thanks for any help.

Sincerely,
Florida

7.5 is pushing it most definately.

I would try and find some 16x7 if you want a show wheel. the 17 will ride rough on the civic or el.

do you have the badass el valve cover?

Thanks for the response.

I have 17" now and love them.

I think the valve cover you are speaking of did not come on the 1999 models. Perhaps it's on the newer gen...

My valve cover just says honda vtec and maybe SOHC (Just like the other similar d-series, right?)

yours says 1.6 honda vtec or something like that... your car is the only one that ever came with that valve cover that I know of

I'll check what the exact wording is when I get back home from Thanksgiving vacation.

In the meantime, I will start the bidding at $500.

With a +42mm offset, you should be okay. Granted you don't have a crazy drop and your alignment is to spec.

Again 17x7.5" wheels is pushing it for a Civic. If you can get a 17x7" with 42-44mm offset. 17x7.5" I would agree with 42-43mm offset. And make sure you get 205/40x17" tires.

Personally I'd get 16x7" cause fitment is better and less chances of rubbing.

7.5 is definately doable. I have 18x7.5 and only have rubbing issues on full turns

Well you probably have 215/35x18" tires which are smaller in diameter than 205/40x17" tires.

I also had a set of 18x7.5" wheels on my car. It had a +40mm offset and it also had 215/35/18 tires. I raised my car a little (about 1-1/2" gap between tire and fender) and I'd only rub on really hard turns or hitting bumps and/or dips on the road. Surprisingly the ride wasn't that bad (I made sure that the tire pressure was always maintained) but still not as smooth as having a 15x6.5" wheel with 205/50/15 tires.
