Default LS/Vtec ECU Q's

Quick question....I'm in the process of doing my ls/vtec swap and i needed the get the new ECU...is it just the OEM GSR ecu or would it be better to go with a virgin ECU and just have it programmed...both for money and later engine mods. Thanks

You could get an OBD1 P72 that will work for your current setup and then allow you to chip it and have it tuned down the road if you need it.

I'd go obd1 P72 as well. However, you will need to wire a knock sensor. If you have a b16 head, or a GSR head with skunk2/jg manifold, a DOHC converted P28 might be a better choice.

I would search this forum and other honda forums to see if you can find a deal. They are rather expensive, but I have managed to buy two of them off the forums for around $160 shipped. Ebay prices will be a good amount more, so use that as your last resort.

An OBD2 ecu is worthless because it cannot be chipped. If you just want the car to run in its stock form and don't plan on modding it further, you can just buy the OBD2 ecu.

So you'll also have to purchase a conversion harness.

You could do the P72, but you have to wire in a knock sensor, and if your doing a mild build on a ls/vtec then id simply go with a chipped p28 and slap a hondata s1, or s2 on... it will run really good... Also make sure to not use your Ls pump, i did and i didnt have any vtec, now i have a typeR... makes nice powa now!
