i have a 97 accord ex,vtec, and the engine is idleing up and down,can someone tell what to look for to get to the problem,what can be causing this?the CEL is not on.

 

do a search for uneven idle or rough idle, we go over this a lot. could be egr, iacv, spark plugs, etc.

 

I had a Mitsubishi Eclipse and it would idle up and down after you started it. The problem was the idle sensor.

 

Yes, it is called hunting, something is amiss with your sensors. Get a Chiltons or Helms book, it describes several error conditions or symptoms and their possible causes. You can check the easy stuff before you go to a dealer or mechanic. Good luck.
