Default B16a Gen1 Obd0 (vs.) B16 Gen1 Obd1

Im looking at swaps on passwordjdm.com. 2 interest me most.

1. b16a gen1 obd1 LSD stage one kit. includes everything i need except mounts. 170 bhp @ 7800 rpms with a 8200 redline. without shipping this is $2249 and id still need the mounts.

2. b16a gen1 obd0 lsd stage 4 kit with YS1 transmission. includes everything i need plus the rare short geared YS1. 160 bhp @ 7600 rpms, with a 8200 redline. without shipping this is $2449, with everything i need. There is only 1 YS1 available, and is $200 extra, so it may not be available by the time i buy it, but its what makes this swap better.

so my question is..... is it better to have 10bhp to work with, or have the YS1 transmission? if the YS1 isnt there when im ready to buy it, i would go with the obd1, is there anything else im missing?

thanks

if you have an OBD1 car get an OBD1 engine. Will save you alot of work. What car do you have anyway?

What kind of car are you gonna swap it into? If it's a 5G civic with OBD-1, you need a HYDRAULIC operated tranny, not the cable type that comes with OBD-0. Also, it makes wiring it up MUCH easier... Also, do u really want ultra short gearing? My friend has a 92 civic hatch w/a B16A2 (170hp), and he'd rather have my tranny (GSR) cause it's gears are a little longer, not so short like his. Yes, it could help under acceleration, but you have top shift more and possibly use the clutch more. Another thing, those cable operated trannys are not as good as the rod-actuated hydraulic trannys.
Hope this helps,
Mike

ok. the hydraulic transmissions are on the Gen2 B16's. now i have that all priced out. i can get everything (LSD transmission) for $3274 shipped. it doesnt include the shift linkage though. can i use the one on my car (d15) or do i need to get one for a b seires? also, i can get a complete swap, minus the LSD for $2674 shipped. Is the LSD worth 600? i plan on boosting shorty after its paid off, so the LSD would probably help with that correct? does it make that much of a difference?

the difference between the stage 2 and 3 kits are

the 2 has OEM axles which need to be remanufactured, and the oem linkage
the 3 has new remanufactured axles, but no shift linkage.

when i boost, i dont plan on going any higher than 300hp, probably much less. will the remanufactured axles handle that? or am i going to have to buy new axles anyways when i boost? Thanks again. just trying to figure out which is the better deal
