Default Help w/ buildup for B18C1 (gsr) into civic

hey guys, just joined the forums and i'm lovin it.

anyways, i'm getting my gsr motor installed Friday, May 20th and it's going into a 98 civic EX (previously a d16y8)...i have decided to go N/A. i have several questions and asking for your opinions on these...

Will the short ram from the d16 fit on the gsr motor? (i heard the manifold on the gsr's are funky)

For headers: 4-2-1 or 4-1 ? (i was thinking DC ss)

For cat-back full exhaust system: magnaflow (have heard good things about sound and HP gains)

Tires/wheels: currently on 16" konigs with Firestone FUZION racing tires

..probably a VAFC

-lookin for any suggestions, thx

-I highly doubt the short ram would fit.

-It's header and DC sports sucks. I would go for a JDM ITR 4-1 header. You will see better gains and it is of much higher quality.

-When I think of magnaflow, I think of white trash truck exhaust. Get a quality system like Greddy or Apexi.

-You don't need a VAFC for bolt ons. Add cams and then it will be a good idea.

A search of the best bolt ons will give you tons of ideas since these topics have been covered hundreds of times.

The short ram will probably work if the TB connection is the same diameter. If not, you can always just change the coupler out so it will flare to the correct size, although the brackets on the SRI (if there are any) will probably not bolt up anymore due to the TB location change.

The DC header will work well for you. I liked my 4-1 better than the 4-2-1.

Cat-back is up to you really. I like the sound of the RS*R exmag, Greddy SP, Apexi WS, Apexi N1 (might be loud for an N/A setup), tech.

Your call on rims.

VAFC really isn't necessary right off the bat. You might come to a point where you will need it or something of the sort based on your needs and goals.

Default thx

thanks for your replies yall.

yeah, other than magnaflow i was thinkin about greddy...obviously lookin for most hp gains but the sound i'm lookin for is deep and smooth but with a roar at vtec (nooo raspiness wutsovever), if u kno an exhaust system like that lemme kno, plz post it

yeah vafc was thinkin about for later on, but can yall gimme the link to where the best bolt ons are?

also woulnd't 4-1 headers cost me midrange power? or is it negligible.

..oh yeah, and also how bout the manifold? i kno skunk2's are a plus but have also heard good things about type-r manifold on a gsr

A Type-R manifold won't bolt onto a GSR head.

I'd go with the Full-Race or Edelbrock Victor-X manifold if you're going to get an aftermarket one. I would if I could do it again...

The 4-1 is made for better mid/high power.
Btw, it's headER, not headers.

I have the Greddy Evo 2 exhaust and it doesn't sound rice at all. It has a great deep tone to it and when I get on it in VTEC, everyone knows.

not really. my brother had a magnaflow muffler and it sounded very nice.

i would have to recommend hytech for that. sounds beautiful. but very pricey at $900. so a rsr exmag or apexi ws will do for much cheaper.

those manifold's are kinda big. really only for fully built setups.

Ya, good point. Goals are really the deciding factor.
