Default Question about gutted catalytic converter?

I was wondering if a gutted OEM catalytic converter would add any HP, There is one for sale on Ebay and the guy claims it adds 7hp. Is that true? Would it make the exhaust any louder? He says it will make the CEL come on, He told me that I could piggy back the sensor or get a high flow sensor. Which would be better to do? Or should I just ignore the light?

Depends on the setup how much hp it adds. You can usually buy an O2 stimulator to make the car not throw any codes.

Dont forget it will make the car a lot louder and mak the cabin stink. I used to run a 3 inch gutted cat on my turbo hatch. It got pretty stinky.

I have a CAI and a 4-2-1 header and a greddy EVO 2 exhaust. How much louder would it be? Would the cabin smell like gas? I use to have a test pipe and it made the cabin smell like used gas but the exhaust was not much louder.

Do you think it is worth $50 shipped?

Unless your car is a track car and never driven on the street, it's not worth it.

Unburnt gas fumes (that the cat usually gets rid of) makes you sterile.

Is that necessarily a bad thing?

Why would you want to pollute the environment to gain 1-5hp? You can't even feel that. And how responsible is that to gut your cat?

1-5 is honestly being generous. I put a test pipe on my '92 CX/B18C1 hybrid and I took it off a week later. Makes no power difference and it changed the actual exhaust tone from a deep rumble to a higher pitched wail which sounded like crap. Save your money.
