Default how much hp can be gained by changing stock internals?

hey guys . looking at the B16aII or the B18c (GSR). B16=$2500, B18=$3300. if i went with the b16 and changed (upgraded) the internals... cam kit, vavle spring kit, pistons. would it be better, cost saving wise, and/or performance wise? or do you guys think it would be better to go with the B18 straight up?

You'd spend the difference between the two on cams alone (just about). The B18C1 has much more potential right off the bat. Now, don't get me wrong, the B16 can be made to be very nice, but I'd build the whole thing if I were going to use one.

i think you should swap to a b18c. EVERYBODY swaps to a b16 so you will still be average. I seen a stock b16aII (170hpjdm) get scraped by a stock b18c (170 too i believe). THe torque and rhigh rev on a gsr is GANGSTA. b16's is for the little dogs anyway. 1.6l is so small.....Im talking as if i have a swap in my car..which i dont, but if i was to swap i would swap to a ls motor before a b16. I love 1.8l, SO much more torque

We're talking Honda motors, all of them are "so small". You get a whopping 12 more cubic inches from a GSR motor.

oh hell no. stfu. a b16a can rev just as high and higher. dont underate the b16a. yeah 1.6 is so small compare to a 1.8. if u want torque drive a mustang. otherwise both motors have equal potential and im not gonna get into that debate cuz its been beaten to death.

it comes down to preference and budget, not everyone has funds off the bat to do b18c. i chose the b16a cuz it was in my budget and i am very happy with my decision.

b16a will safely out rev the hell out of a b18c...it has an almost perfect R/S ratio....I wouldnt be so swift to pop off at the mouth bout the b18c

internals can make a huge difference in power output, but its far from cost effective when comparing, say, a built b16a to a stock b18c... buy the better motor, and when money allows, build that.

Wow, glad to see all the b16ers coming out of the woodwork

I don't quite get how the gsr was outrevving the SiR motor, unless it had some internals done to allow a higher redline.

As for the torque comment, yeah, of course, higher literage will cause more torque -- "no replacement for displacement" I can't remember the website, but it had a great text on how high torque isn't what you want on a dragstrip anyway, you want as much traction on the launch as possible.

Overall, the GSR is probably a better motor, but I wouldn't be so quick to discredit the SiR

I like b16's dont get me wrong. I just think that in this day and age that if you dont have a civic hatch or crx, then you should swap to something bigger.
