they do it so they don't get screwed. your bill is proably right around 250 right now and they are just covering their asses. your not a scumbag, but they have to treat everyone the same just in case. you could always call the manager up and talk to him/her and tell them you are comming back in a few days, they might not need the deposit.

I didn't use a credit card, I did a cash deposit.

Yeah I know it's refundable, but I think it's silly that they're asking me for more even though they're well aware I'm returning this car on Monday. If they wanted a bigger deposit they should have asked in the first place.

they just want to make sure they will get their car back. you wouldn't believe some of the things I've seen when I worked in a rental branch. I'd recommend speaking with the manager and ask them if it is necessary to bring in a deposit. don't talk to an employee, go straight to the manager and tell them your situation. they should let it slide.

Yeah, I was about to ask if you worked in this industry heh. I'm going to call her back tomorrow, after I uh have vaccumed the ash off the carpet.

Tell me some funny stories if you don't mind...

Tell them you refuse to allow them to unilaterally modify the contract and therefore the original terms of the contract will govern the agreement. Tell them they will be liable for any and all damages in the event of their breach relating to the deposit provision.

Then tell them to eat a dick and you'll give em the car back in a few days.
