Default K&N Air Filter

So I hear that getting a K&N airfilter is an easy mod that's worth the while. I'm going to Murray's today to get a headlight bulb and oil+filter. Should I get a K&N air filter as well?

If so, should I just replace the filter in my stock intake, or replace the whole box with a cone filter?

I know this is supposed to be easy, but dare I ask, is there a DIY guide anywhere for this?

Thanks for helping me out.

you remove your old air filter, put in the K&N ... the end.

So no cone filter? Sounds easy enough.

there are K&N intake systems, but those are the same as AEM, Iceman, Weapon R, Comptech, etc ...

the cone comes with the intake system, but if you're doing the airfilter, you only change the airfilter.

I dynoed my car with stock and then K&N drop in filter.

guess how much power K&N made over stock paper filter with 20K miles on it?

less than 1 hp.

this is on a 2000 M Coupe 3.2L Inline 6 engine. I'd say save your money.

The argument for K&N is usually not power gain, but fuel economy.

one could easily argue against that as well. i'd be surprised if you gain .5mpg and that is being really generous.

you don't get K&N for the power, you get it for the washable, cost savings filter.

dropping $30 once > $15 every 6K

woah are you serious? $15 every 6K? that's really short. i don't have to change the filter in the M Coupe until 30K and it's only $10.

also the wash kit is $10-13no? so that adds up as well.
