Default Stereo fried?

Hey everyone, I have a cheap 6 year old JVC stereo in my 90 Honda Civic, and just last night it stopped working.. I was driving, and all of the sudden all the sound cut out, but the lights were still working on the stereo, and it was acting like it was still playing.. Just no sound at all out of the speakers.. Not even a little static. When this happened all the lights on my dash went out at the same time.. So when I got home, and checked my fuses, sure enough I had a bad fuse. I replaced it and all my dash lights came back like normal. But I still have the same problem with the stereo. I went ahead and disconnected everything from the stereo, and then just hooked up the wires for the power, ground, and the + and - wires for my right front speakers. Then I swapped it out for a known good speaker, and still nothing. So I'm assuming it has to do with the stereo and not the speakers. Does it sound like I just fried my stereo? Or could it be something else? Thanks.

Did you check the onboard fuses for the stereo?

Yeah, all the fuses were fine.. I'm starting to think the stereo just finally gave up.. It's pretty old.

That can be it. If you hooked up the unit like you did straight to the battery, you just about eliminated a lot of factors. The internal amp probably just gave out. Check sig for Clarion deck h:

That's a really nice looking stereo.. Wish I could afford it right now, but unfortunately I'm in some serious debt right now.. I don't think I could even afford a cheap $50.00 stereo from AutoZone. lol
After I save up some money though, what would you recommend? People told me before to stay away from Sony. Is this true?

Depends on what features you want. I prefer Alpine or Pioneer. I just got myself this . Havent gotten a chance to mess with it though.

That's a really nice looking stereo. How much does one of those usually go for? I went to a stereo shop the other day to find out what they had, and the cheapest Pioneer they had was a little over $300.00.

Retails for upper $200s, I paid less than $200. But that is through a hookup. I like it so far, for the money at least. :happysad:

Does it light up like it is on but no sound? If so 1 of your speaker wires in the car just could be touching metal and that would put the radio into protection shutting down the onboard amp 1 wire is all it takes to any speaker , or a loose speaker with the terminals touching metal , if it lights up and no sound like someone else said remove it hook it to the battery and use 1 speaker to check it.
if it doesnt even light up its done.
if you have 10 speakers in parallel hooked to it and ran the wrong ohmage to it you could have a fried deck .

Best wishes , lol

Yeah, it lights up. Just no sound. If it goes into protection because a wire touched metal somewhere, do I just have to properly reconnect the wire? Or is there something else that needs to be done to fix it?
