valve adjustment gone awry
Hey, I'm a newbie to this but I have a tale to tell. I took my 2000 CRV in to a dealer to get a timing belt replaced (115K) , an air sensor replaced (stalling and low idle), and a valve adjustment. Except for the stalling, the car ran fine. When I got the car back, however, (replaced MAP sensor and did valve adjustment) the car shook and vibrated. I was told I had a scorched valve and needed a valve job. I took the car to my reg mechanic after a week or so and dropped it off for him to look at. ( I originally did not take it to him because he was too busy) Results were: A bent valve (only bent by a degree or so) and a burnt valve. Both were from cylinder #3.
I went back to the dealer and they say it was a preexisting problem brought out by valves being properly speced. I think that the tech switch the feeler gages for that cylinder - one too loose and burned and the other too low and got tapped by the piston. What do you experts think; and if I am right how do I prove it?
