Default car stereo won't turn on

I just installed a car stereo into my car. I bought the adapter for my car and it has two extra wires. An illumination/dash light and a dimmer wire. My car stereo doesn't have these wires to connect to. I connected all the other wires and the stereo won't turn on. I know that the stereo works because it works in my friends car. Any help will be appreciated.

I checked all the fuses and they look fine. Stereo worked when i first connected wires but now it won't turn on. I put it in my friends car and it works so i know the stereo isn't faulty. Help

Check your ground wire, that might be the cause

Do you have a DMM? that might help to find the exact cause.

this is embarassing to admit but once I returned two head-units as not working before I learned about a second fuse under the hood which when busted will still let the high voltage be seen at the stereo's power line but the thing wouldn't turn on. Sounds like you've allready checked that fuse, but maybe it's worth mentioning
