Default too many miles?

i was wondering a quick little question. If my friend wants to buy a 95 teg ls with 100k miles on it and is planning on doing an ls/vtec would there be any probs or by putting on the b16 head and stuff would it kinda not make a difference, or would you guess recomend that he buys a lower milage ls.

Well.. to build a strong, reliable LS-VTEC motor, one really ought to reinforce the bottom end and freshen the motor overall. So if the chassis and interior are in satisfactory condition, then 100K isn't necessarily excessive mileage.

Just as general advice, I'd recommend a compression and leakdown test for the car you are looking to purchase. Also, plug in "LS-VTEC" into our search engine...from the reults you can get a feel for what's involved in making a "Frankenstein" B18B run strong and reliably.

if hes wanting to do ls vtec it has to get machined(block/head to line up) anyway, so he might as well rebuild

Well, that is true in a sense, but rather than call it a simple rebuild, which kind of implies using stock parts, I'd argue that you're really building up the B18B block to handle the stresses a Frankenstein conversion will put on it -- upgrading the oiling, cooling and structural systems of the motor as opposed to simply replacing worn OEM parts with their identical replacements..

AAR, a number of threads in the past have gone into much more detail on how to build a strong Frankenstein. [Heck, if smog wasn't such a bish out here in Cali, I'd probably build one myself. :happysad:] So take a few minutes to peruse the other discussions via our search engine, when the time comes.
