1998 Vs 2001 Computer

Are the ECU plugs different between those 2 years? If so, is there a way to make an adaptor to reconnect the right wires together?

Yes they are different ... OBD2a ('96-'98) vs. OBD2b ('00 and up). You would need a conversion harness in order to make it work. The '00+ cars also had immobilizers which is another hurdle to overcome.
