Default Mazda Wheels on a Civic

I have a set of 14x6 wheels from a Miata. The bolt pattern matches my 2002 Civic sedan (4x100) but the center bore is too small (54.1 vs 56.1 on the car). Is it possible to have the center bore machined the extra 2mm? Would this damage the wheels, make the wheels impossible to balance or make them unsafe? If it is possible does someone have a ballpark figure as to how much it would cost (I already have the wheels so it would hopefully be alot cheaper than buying new wheels). Thanks for any info.

As long as it seats well on the hub-center, it should be safe. I'd ask the machine shop before you get it machined wether or not the material (i'm assumin Al alloy) will be strong enough after that kinda work. If they say so, then it should be fine... I know of many people who interchange toyota/honda wheels w/ no problems.

Thanks for the reply. I know that Toyotas have a similar center bore to Mazdas on 4x100 wheels (a little smaller 54.06vs 54.10 on Mazdas). If people switch them then that might be good news for me. Do you actually know of people having the center bore enlarged? Is it possible or common (for lack of a better word). Thanks again

I haven't heard of people doing it, but I'm sure its possible on an alloy wheel. I don't think it would work on a steelie though.

Make sure the offest is correct, otherwise i heard miata wheels are a great setup for 4X100 cars. They're very light and pretty strong. Off topic but i drove the new mazdaspeed turbo miata at the mazda rev it up event today and WOW...i've honestly never had so much fun in a car.

It handles like a go-kart with plenty of balls in the middle and up top...it's definetely gonna be my next weekend car after i get bored with the M3.

my brother mounted his slicks on miata rims and runs them on his 96 gsr. same 4x100 bolt pattern as your civic and yes, he did have to bore out the center.
