Hello all,

Sadly I must sell some of my car collection. 2001 PY TYPE R STOCK-New condition-Being sold by car collector (age 45)-I have too many cars and need to free up funds for another project. The R is in storage with my other collector cars-I bought the R as it was and still is the best handling stock car for the money and it was the last year of production. OEM fog lamps, OEM car cover, OEM trunk cargo mat, OEM rear strut bar, OEM cassette deck, clifford alarm. Never smoked it, not a mark on it. Miles 2,813. Never driven in snow, rain, back seat never sat in etc. 1,500 miles of the 2,813 were highway miles during a road trip. I love the car but with 4 in storage that I don't drive something has to give. This car is as new and still has the showroom smell. I paid $24900 sticker with destitnation charges and about $2,000 in sales tax. The reason I mention sales tax is that I consider this a NEW car and you would have to pay sales tax if you were buying a new car from the dealer. What do you all think should be the selling price considering that they are no longer avalible new and it is still the best handling car for the money? No lowball offers please, I will keep it and sell others if I can't get a good buck for it. I don't expect to get more than I paid but don't know what a new one should go for. Midwest location.

Well, first of all, your car is not new. Yes, it has very low miles, and it may even be in "like new" condition, but it is not new. (A new car has never been titled and comes with the full manufacturer's warranty from the date of purchase, and usually has less than 200 miles on it.) So please don't say that it is new. It's not.

Sales tax is applied on any car purchased - new or used - usually based on the tax laws in place where the car will be registered. Most states apply sales tax on the purchase of a used car. So whenever any selling prices or market values are quoted, it is always the amount of the purchase, not including tax, with any applicable sales taxes to be added on. You don't get to charge more because you already paid sales tax on it; most buyers will need to pay sales tax on top of the purchase price when they buy it from you.

It's hard to estimate a market value for a car with mileage this low, just because they are relatively rare - but I don't think it is worth as much as it was when it was new and came with the full four-year warranty (and remember, many folks bought their ITRs for $500-1000 under sticker). If it were my car, I would probably ask $23K and expect to negotiate down to a final selling price in the $21-22K range.

my 2 cents, everybody I have spoken to here in las vegas paid $3000 over sticker so there was no problem selling them here! but if you find the right person I think you could get from 22,000 to 24,000 out of it. it depends on how long you put it up for sale. I have seen 00-01 black and yellow on auto trader with 20,000 miles on them rotting there at 23,999. in the real world and not in cali or nyc you should get 20,000 to 22,000 for it. I have seen the same cars on autotrader for over six months but none of them
had 2,000 miles on them. there was on 00 py with 7,000 on it and its been there quite a while. most kids(under 25) dont have that kind of scratch. and that is the bulk of the interest for those cars(although i am 38) and now that there is the wrx and the srt you can get those new with a full
3 year 36000 warantee and finance and pay for it over five years is alot
easier than comming up with $22,000. its hard to get a loan for an 01 unless you have super good credit and again its about age. sorry for rambling. I wish I had the extra money for another one!!!

Ask high for it and see where that brings you, start around 24,ooo.

No need to take a loss if you don't have to. also I'm sure there are a few people looking to buy an R if it is truely under 3k miles
