Hello all, I am Matt, I'm 28 and work in an office, but I love to wrench in my spare time, anyway I just sold my 1997 Eclipse Spyder, had a lot of mods, it was fast but it was time for something new. I am currently shopping for a 2000 or 2001 ITR, I have a few prospects lined up. Is there anything I need to look for? Any known problem areas? I am sticking with sub 30k mile cars so I'm hoping I get a cherry one. Any feedback appreciated. I can't wait to get it!!!!!!!!!!

As much as we love the ITR, the fact of the matter is that it is basically just a 200 HP Civic.

It's very reliable, and there's nothing in particular I can think of out of the ordinary that you should look for that would be in addition to common sense and the usual things you'd be looking for in a used car.

I'd worry more about bad accident repairs than any "problem" areas.

Yeah.. they're reliable. The biggest problem being that most people who own them truly drive the crap out of them. Such as making repeated clutch dumping 1/4 mile runs after modifying the review mirror. A car can only take so much punishment.(even a Honda! )

The Type R was made to be driven hard. I suggest very good maintenance and your R won't ever fail on u. Oh yeah, watch out for other idiots who can't drive.

Hi Matt. Good luck in your search. My only advise is to take your time in your search. Not all of these cars have been abused - some have just been driven 'spiritedly', and a few have been babied; ideally of course would be if you knew the previous owner etc etc etc.
It's simply a super car, esp for the money. Good looks, excellent handling, brilliant motor, and an 'edge'; plus Honda quality. It's a no-lose. Enjoy.

Woah, thats pretty low mileage. One thing I can tell you is get good insurance just in case someone wants to hurt/steal your baby. Dont let theives keep your car in storage. Drive that bitch. I've got about 74,000 miles on my 2001 PY ITR and I love every mile/minute.
