I met up with a friend of mine so he could show off his new car, a 2000 4-cyl VTEC Accord coupe. We ate, then drove around for awhile. Eventually, he pulled up at a stoplight and a Ram truck stopped next to us.

This was no ordinary Ram. It had a blower. I've seen the same truck run low 7.00s in the 1/8 a time or two.

"Hey, check it out. He's got a blower," I said to my friend.

He immediately crunched his shifter into 1st and declared, "I'll race him!"

He revved at the truck. The guy in the truck looked amused and revved back.

"Are you stupid?" I asked.

"I'll beat him with aerodynamics!" was his reply. He was totally serious. (Aerodynamics is probably the only automotive term he knows.)

The light changed. My friend dumped the clutch, spun horribly, shifted into second too soon, bogged, and then finally got going. The guy in the truck took of nice and easy, barely put-puttering off the line so we'd be sure to get ahead. We just barely inched ahead of him.

"I beat him! I beat him!" My friend shouted, bouncing up and down in his seat.

Then the truck took off and flew past us so fast it almost blew us off the road.

"Holy ****! No! No! I was beating him!" my friend protested. I think he was about to cry.

Me, I just thought it was funny.

 

:slap: To your ricer friend. Tell him to hit the hazards, then he officially wins the race.

He's not really a ricer, he just truly has no idea what a fast car is. His thought process was probably something like: "It's a truck, therefore it cannot be fast."

Nah, he's a good friend. He just doesn't know anything about cars.

 

Aerodynamics might matter after 3rd gear but not from a stop light.

It's like my friend who thinks that anytime you mention a soft clutch, he thinks your master cylinder is bad. It's like the only drivetrain part he knows.
