new turbo kit coming out!
has anyone checked out the new edelbrock turbo kits for the d16y8s ( and soon d16z6s and b16as)/ they look :naughty: to me. Come with a garrett bb turbo, intercooler, manifold, all piping, a piggyback that makes you not need to get a turbo chip, and more goodies. I am planning on getting a d16z6 to put in my 5th gen sedan auto  and this looked like a very nice option (you can already find the d16y8 kits for about 500 under edelbrocks price one ebay). Check out the link if u want and lemme know what you think:

link doesnt take u all the way there so just click on the turbochargers option on the frame to the left

that kit has been out for almost a year. Its OK, but probably not the best you can peice together for a similar price. Plus, there have been glitches with the management, causing it to boost WAY BEYOND normal levels. The subsequent engine damage is understandable. I guess they've probably worked that out by now, since its been on the market for a while.
It's the replacement for the Apexi kit basically. It comes with a dualBB turbo, an EMS and a bunch of other goodies. It's a great competition turbo to the Greddy kit, just more expensive.
Oh, and I can get them.

so would you guys suggest that if I do go with a FI d16z6 that i use this kit or greddy, apexi, or build my own? remember I have no experience with turbo and will be running this kit on stock internals for at least a little while.
I would reccomend in this order:
A'pexi kit with BOV and intercooler options, custom fuel managment.
Greddy kit, with BOV and intercooler options, supplied fuel managment or custom.
Edelbrock kit.
I think the apex'i is going to come with an FMU, which isn't very desirable. But the BB turbo is very nice, give you a little jump on spool, which is more fun for the street.
The greddy kit, if it comes with the emange, could be a nice simple complete solution.
The edelbrock kit, you have to switch your intake manifold, which is kind of involved, it comes with 4 additional injectors, and has it's own fuel managment. Edelbrock is a relative new comer to the sport compact turbo market. So some of the bugs of the kit made it into the final product.
I think the greddy kit, with emange would be a nice comprimise for someone new to FI.

Built motor = Edelbrock or Apexi kit. That's the only way I could feasibly spend that kind of money for the "performance" of the dual ball-bearing turbos. The Edelbrock is more expensive than the Apex'i (discontinued), but not by much and it comes with a LOT of extras that would help on a nice built setup.
Greddy = awesome deal for the everyday driver, frequent track-goer. I've had my 15G kit on for over 2 years and love it. If I built the motor, I would go with a custom setup where I could select every detail. Of course, my custom setup would run more than a kit

wait the edelbrock site claims their garrett turbo is ball bearing as well. they also claim 60% power gains at only 7 psi. Is greddy or apex'i(if i can still find one somewhere) gonna get me these gains with comparable spending (~3500$)? I will also be buying the kit for the d16z6 if I do buy one from edelbrock and there kit for the d16y8 has been out for almost a year now...isn't that enogh time(+ the r&D time on the z6 kit) to get the bugs out?
