Default How to install Power Steering 95 civic dx

i have a 1995 civic dx 5 speed with no power steering.I wanted to know if it is possible to install power steering and what is the complete part list of what i would need. Also what cars would i be able to take the parts from.Because There is a 1995 civic ex automatic 4 door with powersteering that if the parts were the same I would have access to all of them for the cost of about 20 bucks. Please enlighten me on this subject.

PS: I already did a search sooo lets leave that reply off.

95 dx . Humm my 95 has PS . You might just need a pump and run the lines . Being that you did buy the car modded .

Does your motor have either one of these ? also if the motor is stock does it have a 3 belt pully and the bottom right hand if your looking at it standing in the front .

ahh yes,the pulley

so if someone could verify that this is the complete swap over

1.ps pulley
2.ps pump
3.resevoir(sp)
4.lines
5.rack and pinnion.

and will these all work from a 95 ex sedan automatic in my 5 speed.

You will need the rear engine subframe from a PS car. The non-PS rack has a physically smaller diameter than the PS rack so the subframe is designed for that (otherwise there completely interchangeable). I installed a GS-R rear subframe and GS-R PS rack on my hybrid but without all the PS stuff. The CX (and I guess DX) non-PS rack has extremely long ratios that make almost any turn a hand over hand affair. It's easier on you when your stopped to turn the wheel but ruins any kind of sporty driving. The GS-R rack was a little harder to turn over but you never have to take your hands off the wheel except for slow sharp turns and I didn't mind the exercise when parking.

Here's a pic of the PS rack's subframe, you can see the cutout for the rack and it's bushing.

Here's the non-PS's subframe (sorry for the bad pic, but if you look close, you can tell that it's flat, and not concave like the other one).

By the way, you'll also need the little universal joint that connects the steering shaft to the rack. The PS racks have a larger geared end than the non-PS so one side of that joint is larger for the PS rack. Probably be easiest to find a car in a junkard and pull everything, the subframe, the rack itself, all the soft and hardlines and the pump and tank too. Hopefully everything comes out okay and works but honestly, it's not that much work turning the wheel over.
