Ranting/Question :(
For about a month and a half I have been hearing a knocking noise coming from the front right of my car. I had numorous people agree with me that I had a busted cv axle. I sent it to the shop and they told me there was nothing wrong with my cv axle. There is a guy at my mom's work who is like a car expert etc. etc. and she tld him my problem. He asked her a few questions about my car and then straight up told her I f'ed my car up. He said that more than likely I have a cracked tie rod and very much needed to park my car til it was fixed. Sad thing is all adds up because it didn't start hapening til I lowered my car and that could be why they didn't find anything wrong with my cv axle at the shop. I'm also parked at college and my house and repair shop is 45 minutes down the road. Was told this is going to cost me nearly $500-$600 to repair. Does this sound like it could be the tie rod to yall and if not what else could it be? Sorry for my ranting but this is pretty important....
DUDE dont pay that!!!! in canada i can pick that up for 25 bucks a CT (autozone) to put it on should be simple and after that all you'll need is an alignment. Yes that easy!! F@^* paying 500-600 U.S funds bye the way the labour was supposed to be 1 Hours worth (by the book standards) it shouldn't take more than an hour or two

I agree. Just replace the whole tierod yourself. I'd get the ends as well.
Take off your old tierod with ends still attached
Adjust the new one so that it's the same length
Install new one.... I really think it's that easy.

lmao, I could get a steering rack from a car at a junkyard with low miles, slap that in for under 100, and it might take an afternoon with the engine in the car... And that's while paying more attention to a case of beer than to the car...
Well this is me who is by no means a mechanic. I put my new springs/struts on but thats prolly as far as it will go for in installing stuff unless I got someone there guiding me on how to do it. Wish I knew how though....
I'm gonna sound really stupid when I say this but I don't even know what the tierods look like. I've never even thought about dealing with them and never heard much on em. Sorry if I sound like a complete noob.....
Man... in the last 2 weeks I've done a clutch on a 90 Teg, a motor swap in a 95 civic, a strut brace on a 99 civic, oil change on my wife's 02 beetle, oil change/wheel rotation/fix exhaust leak/broke a bolt - drilled the hole - tapped the hole on my car and now you want me to fix your car too?
When? :chuckles:
When? :chuckles:
