Default 96-00 Steering Rack Swap

Hey-

I've read the posts about gen 5ers doing this swap, but has anyone swapped out the power steering rack on a gen 6 with a non-power integra rack? I already took out my belt but I am going to stop there until I find a suitable non-power rack swap, if it exists.

get a rack out of a 96 or newer civic that doesn' have power steering.

swap shouldn't be much harder than the 5th gen swap.

i did a swap on my 5th gen. well worth it.

Are those very easy to find? I would imagine PS came standard on all of them, didn't it?

Probably not on the CX hatchs but I :dunno: much about the 6G civics.

could always do a 6th gen si rack swap and then do the ps->manual conversion (loop lines, etc)
this would be shorter and would be slightly easier to turn than a standard manual rack - so i am told

Why would I get a PS rack from an Si? Isn't the same as the EX? The idea is to go to manual to save weight and parasitic drag. Am I missing the point?

no the si rack is shorter
then get a ps->manual changeover kit - weight is saved because the bulk is removed

youre not missing the point...just not seeing it from the right angle

doing it this way is probably easier too because less is changed (just my thoughts)

edit**heres a changeover kit that is highly recommended and you can read about it too

I swapped mine out in favor of a non-power rack. The swap was pretty straight forward and easy as long as you can get the front of the car high enough off the ground. If your car is lowered, your going to need to get an alignment right away and you should regardless because the rack is not going to be aligned.

I know with mine, I had so much toe out after the swap that I could not even drive my car. I had to do my own alignment in my garage just to get it good enough to drive to the dealership.

oh....integra racks don't fit 6th gen civics so you need a non power 6g rack. I got mine from car-parts.com for $35 from a local junk yard. Search on there and you'll find one close to you very easily.

swp in a manual rack, do not loop the lines of your power steering rack.

6th gen civic cx's had manual steering not hard to get.

www.sohfast.com can get you one for a fair price.
