1993 integra LS auto tranny problem
pleeezzzeeee help! 1993 integra LS 138k miles auto. when its cold out, you put the shitfer in park but it takes sometimes up to 5 min for the red light behind park to come on, which has to be lit up for the key to come all the way out. the shifter goes into park fine, the car shuts off fine, but they key wont turn any farther back than the ACC position til the red light comes on. any suggestions what to replace?
I think you're expierencing the same problem I have which strictly happens in the winter. I have a 92 LS Auto.
The quickest solution may be getting a copy made of your original key. I have yet to fix the problem myself so whether that'll work or not is in question.
From what I understand, G2 tegs are known to have a gear position switch issue. If the car doesn't detect that you're in the "P" (Park) position, it won't let you remove the key. The switch costs approximately $50-60 to replace.
Before replacing anything, play with the shifter when it's in park. Jiggle it back and forth, left and right and use the brake a little maybe. I've done all sorts of things but I often find myself sitting there for a good 5 mins.

Yeah, same thing happens to me, '93 LS auto
I just jiggle the gear shifter, jiggle the wheel, stamp my foot on the break a few times
repeat
repeat
repeat
till it comes out finally
... only gets stuck a fraction of the time tho

Usually, I'd bitch about bringing up a dead thread, but you are one of the few to bring it up for a good reason. Congrats, good first post.
I was too young and inexperienced to find out where it was on my old '92 auto, however it should be in the front of the shifter assembly in the center console. It only takes a few screws to get the center console out.
(Note: these things always fail in cold weather, I don't know why... I really need to see a failed one to find out. My old one failed in December '02.)

same thing happened to my 93 integra, the previous owner liked to eat and drink alot in his car, he spilled a drink in the center consol then it started happening to the car. when i got it i went to the junk yard and got the shifter assembly and all of the relays (switches) that connect to it swaped them out and the problenm never came back it also had a problem with releasing the key when the car was turned off. when i fixed the first problem they both were fixed
