Default broken 1995 Integra non-vtec, engine upgrade?

Alright, my dad has a 1995 Integra RS non-vtec with 140,000 miles. The timing belt (?, I know nothing, please bare with me) is broken and possibly there is more damage but they can't be sure until they fix the timing belt ($700). The car still looks great, should we try and swap the engine with something better?

Whats the difference between JDM and USDM?

How would I know if I was getting a piece of garbage or a good engine?

Its really hard to find good information on the net about this stuff, everyone is just trying sell something, please tell me what to do.

Don't pay that much to fix the timing belt. You can put another running B18B in there for that much if you do it yourself.

Japanese Domestic Market (made for use in Japan) and United States Domestic Market (made for use in America.) There is only slight differences in the engines, but the JDM versions tend to be slightly more powerful then the US versions.

Compression tests, choosing a good dealer/importer, and a little luck.

you should not pay $700, way tooooooo much.

you can get that done for $250-$400 MAX with the water pump.

Ok, everything else runs well, the car is still smooth. If I wanted to do an engine swap would I need a complete changeover or just the "long block." It would be nice to be able to put in a 180 hp b18c vtec long block for $1700. Is this possible when you go from a b18b non-vtec?

Yeah, any B-series engine would fit.

Yep, like dom93hatch said, any B-series engine will fit.

Oh, by the way, 700 dollars is not too much depending on your location. I lived in Oklahoma and had to change the timing belt on my civic, and yes, it cost about 350 with the water pump from the dealer. Now, back in Maryland, I canīt find anywhere locally who can do it on my sisterīs accord for under 650... looks like Iīm going to be stuck doing it

But anyways, yeah, I would definately go with a B18c from a GSR, or one of the JDM Type-R Engines if you can afford it.:naughty:

Good luck man.

gsr engines are good, go with that. doesn't sound like you really want or need a type r, especially if it's your dad's car...
