Wood Stove Crew
Anyone have a wood stove/fireplace insert?
Over the summer I purchased a used Regency 2400 on CL off some lady for $600.
I've been picking up free wood off CL and been using it as my primary heat source for the house.
So far my gas bills are about $80 less/month.

Great way to heat up a home quickly... hard to regulate though.
Well, I should note the place I stayed at where it had one of these it was just sitting in the corner and it was extremely hot in the room but the heat that transferred everywhere else was perfect. The people I stayed with used fans to blow the hot air around the house.

When I bought my house, it had 2 wood stoves. One upstairs, one in the basement. I used the one upstairs a few times and it heated the crap out of the whole living area (living room, kitchen, dining room). Actually had to crack the windows it was so hot.
I got rid of it because it was a feng shui nightmare. I don't use the one in the basement because I pretty much never hang out down there anyway. Also my wife is pretty sensitive to smoke/smell/allergens/whatever else you can think of. If she even catches a wiff of campfire smell in the house, heads will roll. :hsd:

I am trying to find one for my fireplace, but I think I am going to have to have it custom built because of how massive my fireplace is. My parents have an insert and they use it to heat the entire house pretty much all winter.

So we're getting a house in Tennessee outside of Knoxville for medical school. It has a wood stove in the basement (going to have to get used to having a basement again).
The current tenant says that he hasn't used anything else as a heat source this winter. Are these things hard to manage?
