Default b16a question

Ok, so this summer i'm comin in on a deal...i am tradin my 90 camry for a '93 EG hatch. it's got dang near 270K and still running strong, but i am gonna do a swap in it. i was thinkin about the b16a and possibly slappin a turbo on down the road. can tell me about the b16a + turbo combo? i haven't heard much about it, which makes me kinda wonder if it's not a great idea. turbo would be the last thing, if it ever occurs....i would start with intake, exhaust, fuel, etc....

B16 is a good and reliable engine; especially under boost. But once you get that B16 you are gonna wish you would of got something bigger. Build a B20/VTEC.

i have been lookin at the b18b for a while, but i dunno, i know it's got great torque. but it's more expensive than the b16a, and yes the b18b can prolly handle alot more boost, but i just dunno...the b16a has more stock ponies than the b18b....its still up in the air yet....the more feedback i get the better...thanks guys

I tend to see B18B's around the same price as B16A's. If you are talking about first gen B16A's, you should include B18A's in the run. A 92-93 B18A is easier to set up then an 88-91 B16A, but not by much.

If you are interested in simplicity, you need a 92-95 SiR-II B16A. They cost over $2k for the swap. More expensive then any B18B swap I've ever seen.

why would one even suggest that? he says he wants to stay in the price range of a b16a and you recomend an unreliable rather expensive alternative...way to be helpful......I have a b16a in my 95 coupe and let me tell ya I love her, but I wish I would have gone b20b turbo instead....which I think I am gonna swap in next summer.

b18b all the way. they're prevalent which means there price is low. the most ideal would obviously be a b18c, but thats at least another grand. b18b is great cuz it has about 12 ft/lbs more torque than a b16a, .2 liters more displacement, and is made for a turbo (not that a b16 isnt or anything though). the only downfall is it doesnt have vtec which the b16 does, but this will become inconsequential when you turbo it. just my opinion.

well just to let you know, i'd never build a b20, not worth the effort for the results...i'm not a newb, and i have a pretty good idea on what i'm doing when it comes to honda's, and i know alot...but i haven't heard much about the b16a w/turbo application...i know that b18b is great for turbo, and honestly i've been back and forth between them...the only real reason i like the b16a is because, if i decide not to turbo down the road for whatever reason, i can always go N/A and still keep up the ponies....i mean i know it's good to plan for the future and all, but turbo is really far down the road. this isn't going to be some kind of half hearted effort....i'm doing it right...before i even think about turbo, i'm going to have pretty much every bolt on cept nitrous....so inreality, i think my best bet would be the b16a just for the fact that i'll be able to play with the fuel/vtec combo and tune it right to get some more ponies...but thanks everyone for your suggestions
