Default im gettting harsh grind in 2nd. please help!

whenever i put in 2nd gear at around 3rpm+, it gives me a hard grind. Shifting to other grears are fine. I got a 95 GSR with 111k. What cause this and how can i solve it? The grinding is really pissing me off! Another thing, whenever i rev 3rpm+ in neutral there's a grinding type sound from the engine. sometimes when i put in a gear and rev, it gave me a slight jerk. Can this be the tranny? If it is, how much does it cost to replace it (including labor)?

It sounds like your clutch I would replace that. If its not your clutch then its your synchro's are gone

more than likely is your clutch AND syncro if you said it doesn't grind in other gears.

A syncro is a gear that syncronizes gear speed with drive speed.

It would be cheaper to find a used tranny.

First thing I would do is flush the tranny fluid and replace it with fresh fluid (GM Syncromesh seems to cure a lot of peoples grinding issues).

If grinding persists, its most likely a synchro.

Does it slip at all? If youre just experiencing grinding and no slipping/holding issues, chances are it isnt the clutch.

While the tranny is dropped for the synchro, however, you may as well swap the clutch.

Go by steps. First things first, change the fluid.
