Move to Houston? :rick:
I've been giving this a lot of thought lately. I graduate college next summer, but I know I won't be ready for the industry (animation) when I get out, so I'm planning to take a year off to work on my portfolio. My best friend invited me to live with him and his gf in Houston. Houston is nice...not a lot of hotties, but a nice place nonetheless. Very flat... Ain't no San Diego though. :fawk: Rent is 192873891623781293691782x cheaper than SoCal, which is a big plus. I could probably finish paying off my Integra while paying rent in Houston. I also want to get as far away from my asshole stepdad as possible.
However, a big part of the industry is located in SoCal, so I'd have a better chance of finding a job if I stayed here.
Any input?

id go to houston until you get your portfolio set up and then when your ready...maybe go back to socal and get ur career started :dunno: i plan on working in hollywood when im done since i know the only other places where movie studios are big are orlando and canada....and i dont wanna work in either of those places so im going back to cali when im done. good luck with whatever you decide
Thanks.
Being a full-time student and working on a portfolio at the same time is hard work... I had to put my portfolio on hold just so I can do schoolwork. I think a year should be enough to bust out a good portfolio. I'm just scared of being left behind in the industry.

Personally, I think you should try to get a job in the industry when you get out of school. Just something that will let you meet others who are doing what you wanna do, even if you only get hired as an assistant or something, networking will help you more than you know. And I'm not just saying this cuz I want you to stay in SD

It's ok Deek :hugglez:
Right now I'm doing freelance work for 3 companies (one of them is a pr0n site lol), and hopefully that'll get my foot in some doors. I know networking is the most important thing. Hell, I'm getting an internship at a law firm from some guy I met at a party a couple weeks ago. :yay: I also have connections at Mad Catz, Pixar and Blizzard :rick: I hope they remember me in 2 years...
