Hmmm a friend of mine has 72600 miles on his car. he drives on average 125 miles a day.

I have about 86000 miles on my car. I drive an average of 60 miles a day.

I cant think of the formula or math equation to find out when he'll catch up to me.

Can anyone figure it out?

 

206.15 days...so he'll catch you on the 207th day.

Ok. Let x equal the number of days. Using that, and the current mileage and mileage per day you can establish equations for the future mileage.

You: y = 86000 + 60x
Him: y = 72600 + 125x

Since you want to know when he'll catch you, set the equations equal to each other, and solve for x. When you do this, you end up with 13400 = 65x....divide both sides by 65, and you get x = 206.15 days.
