rebuilting my gsr block
alright, im rebuilting my gsr block, and im putting in JDM type R pistons, and i was if i can still use my gsr rods? and i was wondering if i have to do any head job, to be able to handle my bottom block?
not sure if they work exactly the same.. you gotta look at the bore and stroke for that one. but i do know that GSR rods will work with ITR pistons. your cleareance will be fine with JDM pistons, but the compression will be higher than 11.2:1 for sure.
I was running ITR pistons and GSR rods in my CRX till I sold it and everything was A-ok. You can pretty much swap all the GSR parts for ITR parts but it is like said above sorta expensive. Oh yea If you end up using the ITR water pump make sure you get an ITR timing belt.
If you use an ITR water pump you can use either the ITR or the GSR timing belt. All the bearings are the same. But you might as well buy new ones. But if your only using ITR pistons then you dont need to change the rod bearings at all, cause your not changing your rods. But if you get new rods you should get new rod bearings. You dont necessarily need to do a head job either, but it definately wont hurt it if you do! You'll want to get a new head gasket, and if you want to be king get some ARP head studs & bolts. If you get ITR cams then you should definately do a head job. I hope I covered all your questions.
