Default Is going LS/Vtec worth it?

I'm about 99.9% sure I'm going to swap in an LS-Vtec hybrid into my 89 4door. But before I go through with it, I just need a little feedback. First off, about how much more hp & torque does a LS hybrid generate, than a stock b16a? I know a stock B16a is rated 160 hp, but how much of it is at the wheels? Because an LS-Vtec with a stock b16a head and stock b18a block dynoed at about 145 hp. Basically, I just wanna know If I can make some kick ass power with this thing, or should I just go the normal route and just throw in a b16, like everyone else? Any opinions, or comments would be extremely helpful.

i've seen ls/vtecs put out around 180 hp and 140+ lbsft of torque. A b16a wouldn't stand a chance agains one.

yea, Honda made LS Vtec...it's called GSR. LS Vtec isn't worth it unless you have a car with an LS engine, and you want Vtec. It's actually going to cost about the same as going with a GSR engine, unless you already have many of the parts...like the head or the block.

I already had the complete b18a motor, I was going to put just that in, But I wanted more power. So instead of selling it, why not slap on a vtec head? (and by slap on, I mean install correctly)

Well, then that makes sense. With the full LS engine at your disposal, adding a Vtec head would cost less, (though not much) than buying a GSR motor and installing it.

gsr does NOT stand a chance against an ls/vtec motor. only because it has more tq than a gsr. i have a b18b block w/a b18c1 head. there is great potential gains for an ls/vtec... for turbo or all motor.

btw, it is cheaper to buy a gsr than have an ls/vtec put together, only because of the work needed to have it done.

I've read that to have a good LS/VTEC you want to do some strengthening of your engine's internals, since the LS block isn't made for the higher RPM's of the GSR's computer (which you'll need to make the VTEC functional).

I've also heard you'll want to use some ARP Rod Bolts.
And don't forget to use the GSR's water pump and timing belt.
