I am looking to replace my pads once i turn my rotors either this weekend(on my Accord)or next(most likely from the cheap pads i got from advance auto parts). I have heard ceramic pads are virtually dust free and still provide good breaking power.

Now a local NAPA auto parts store offers a front set for $54, is this a typical price for a ceramic pad? Also are there "bad" brands of ceramic pads out there? It said these were "ceramix". I am guessing its a brand "ceramix"..but they are ceramic in material.

Any brake buffs feel free to lecture me on this broad subject. Also some ideas to keep from turning my rotors as often as i should.

try accord board for your accord and the civic board for you civic.

not sure you'll get much response from the engine tech board.

 

but brake pads is a subject that effects every make and model of car/truck/and suv being driven today. Since there was no "brake tech" forum, i figured i'd post here since this is a broad subject. Not only do accords or civics have rotors and pads(no insult intended).

why get dust-free pads? Is it really that difficult to wash your wheels every 3 or 4 days?

I've never tried ceramic pads but I had some decent luck with kevlar pads.

Metalmaster makes a set that has less brake dust. Now keep in mind, there is not such pad that is completely dust free. They are dust less.

I've also used EBC green stuff but those caused pad transfers and ruined a set of rotors. Which can be fixed by having the rotors turned, if you don't have slotted or drilled rotors.

I also recommend Axxis Ultimate pads but they dust more.

What I've found is that you want to go with a company that produces consistent pads. EBC in my opinion do not produce consistent pads. I had 2 bad sets but my buddy had a good set. Purchased 6months apart.

Axxis Ultimate are great, as well as metalmasters.

First, yes...i know that no pad is dust free, just "less" dust.

What would you consider a "bad" pad? I got a set of Wearever Silvers from Advance Auto Parts and installed them about 3 months ago. Afterwards i started to experence vibrations when braking. Would this most likely mean i got a bad set of pads?

One more question, all these brands that you are mentioning. Do all major parts stores carry them? Or are they specific to certain ones?

I would also like to know which is the best brake pad to buy for aftermarket rims? I bought myself Albany brake pads about 2 weeks ago and they were working great but today i got some new rims and tires and i can already see brake dust all over my rims. I know its not that hard to wash them but if they got dirty in over a day's period then my best choice would be to upgrade my pads. So what company and material would you guys recommend??
