Default civic tranny shudder

89 Civic LX Auto

I'm getting a big vibration from the transaxel when it shifts into 2nd. The car is an automatic, and I've kept the tranny fluid changed and everything. If I take my foot off the gas right before the tranny shifts, it shifts with no vibration or sound.

I have a link to the sound I recorded by taking my laptop in the car and taping a mic to the battery. If you listen you can hear the big low sound as the car shudders into 2nd. I am driving the car normally and it shifting at about 2500 or slightly over. I really don't have any other problems besides what you can basically hear in the file. I think I hear valves clattering in the file also.

Does anyone know why the tranny may be doing this?

wow...nice recording...i would say if the car is shuddering when it shifts... you got a clutch pack going out. a quick little tranny rebuild would take care of the problem for you

That's what I thought it was. It's been doing it for a long time and I can avoid it by letting off the gas, so if it doesn't get worse, I'll just let it stay. I plan to sell the car sometime anyways.

woooo! YES! Someone who knows a good deal about Hondas that could come to huntsville!

I'm really looking for another car. Considering a Nissan Pickup, Prelude, 240SX, Integra, or something else that isn't too bad. My friend told me that I might be smoking, but I've never seen it, and I had people stand behind my car and tell me if it smoked. I really just want to get out of it. I must be the 4th driver of the car. The driver's seat is worn out from peoples' asses.
