beef up the internals, heavier flywheels and clutches add torque but at a loss of top end power, its hard to get both. different camshafts with higher lobes b4 vtec engages will give u more low end power but at a loss of mileage/gallon

Torque... B16... no.

Sleeve it larger, stroke it, or slap some forced induction on it, because that's the only way you're going to get low end power out of it.

Honda motors make peak torque at high RPMs. Nothing you can do about it.

yah pretty much, u can increase ur displacement with what qtiger was posting but there is no cheap way to do it, but the engine is made for top end power, the biggest power increase ur gonna get would be lowering ur vtec engagement point and saying screw fuel economy, or by getting a camshaft that is turned more to what ur looking for, with higher low end lobes, but this isnt really cheap and will kill fuel economy, but hey u'll still be looking at least 20 mpg so who cares, what i have found with my b16 is just to find more ways of utilizing the top end power, lightening the car to make it pull faster, lightening internals and drivetrain components to create even less torque but to make the engine rev faster so it gets into that top end power quicker, and stays there for longer, u can also do valve train modifications and make it rev higher into the 9000 rpm range with the right valves, valvesprings, and retainers, hollowed camshafts spin faster, with less effort, but this also decreases torque. its sad that honda's cannot create torque as well as other vehicles but there is a reason for it, the top end power is not compromised, in a small liter engine.

It's a 1.6 liter inline four. If you want all-motor torque then buy a muscle car.

agreed...its a give and take thing for any motor...just out of curiosity what does stroking a 1.6 do to the high revvs? ive never seen or heard of anyone stroking a 1.6. i used to do that alot back in the v8 days of mine. generally it comprimises the ability to high rev the engine...of course you can also de-stroke engines too....thats really fun on a v8

and if you want a muscle car...i have a very torque heavy car ill sell you

Same thing, you sacrifice revability for low end power.

yah by getting a stroker kit u'll increase ur displacement but you will probably gain hp thru out all rpms, but ur car will probably have a lowered redline because ur throwing off ur crank/piston length and the piston will have longer to travel.

That kit makes the stroke the same as a b18c, which is why it only increases the displacement by .1L. It'll still be a pretty high revving engine. The Crower kit, on the other hand, has a much longer stroke at 89mm for the b16 and 92mm or 95mm for the b18s.
