D16A head on EW timing belt?
I have a customer who wanted me to put a D16A head on his EW1 block and also stuff in the D16A pistons. Should be a nice little engine but...just finished putting together this SOB and can't get a line on what timing belt to use. Anybody have any info? Been to 5 parts stores matching up belts and of course the tech lines for the belt co's are down for the night/weekend.
The EW block is shorter than the D block. After rooting through every parts store in town and having them order a bunch of belts in I finally found one that would work. A little wide but some careful trimming and it looks good. It is a 95230 or T230 or TO230 depending what brand you are looking at. This thing should be racing next Saturday so well see how well it does.
It can be done. The engine is up and running and for anyone interested, in testing this combination dropped lap times by more than .6 sec in a 1/4 mile asphalt track in a 84 crx. Enough speed that though he started at the back of the pack, he had passed everyone within 10 laps during the feature. The Victor Reinz head gasket didn't like the extra cylinder pressure and started to seep water into the exhaust so he ended up pulling out before the finish to avoid damaging the engine. Trying a Felpro today to fix that glitch. Should be a winner!
