I'm not a big fan of add on ECM stuff - VAFCs are ok but very limited - good for someone that doesn't want to mess with ECM programming. If you don't know what you're doing with it, you could hurt your engine. I'm sure the reason why there are so many of them on ebay is what I stated before. I'd rather use hondata or other chip editing software unless you need to do some trial and errror tuning, then I guess the VAFC is helpful.

You can get Hondata S100 for about the same price, or less. If you're OBD-II and you don't want to deal with the added cost of converting to OBD-I to run Hondata or you don't necessarily need all the tuning capabilities that i offers, then a piggyback unit is a decent option. Of course, you could go with something like the AEM EMS that works with OBD-II, but that'll cost you a bit more than an AFC. Whatever you choose, you'll need some dyno time to realize maximum gains.

For OBDI cars I suggest Hondata.

OBDII your best options are V-AFC for mild mods and an AEM EMS for the heavy stuff.

v-afc is useful to lean out you a/f mixture (most cars run rich stock) you can gain some power from that. you can also lower your v-tec point to where it makes the most power. They are pretty good power if you get it dynotuned.

If you do it yourself you can harm your engine. Running it to lean will mess stuff up and if you make v-tec come on too early the car will bog down.

The only bad thing about v-afc, and all other v-tec controllers i know of (excluding the hondata systems) only program the a/f ratio before STOCK v-tec engagement. i dont know for certain, but that's what i read the other day.

good luck

I thinkn you're talking about open-loop versus closed-loop operation, do a search on HT, and you'll find more info.

I believe the open vs. closed nomenclature refers to a feedback loop.

He has a Vortech supercharger with rather interestingly plumbed twin Saab intercoolers. Not sure if he's going to come back to this thread, but that should give people an idea of what he's running.
