Default owned at the State ref, what a suprise :\

well the Visual part of the test went fine, welp minus the p28 ECU i was running (couldnt find my friend to get my p72,damn't

Comprehensive Visual Inspection: TAMPERED (ecu)
Functional Check: PASS
Emissions Test: GROSS POLLUTER :\

now i failed the emission test on high HC and CO numbers, take a look...

Idle Emission Results

HC #'s

Max- 100
GP-250
MEAS 443

CO #'s

MAX- 1.00
GP- 2.50
MEAS- 1.26 (idle-1036rpm & 1.78 MEAS 2500rpm-2588rpm)

[MEAS = amount measured] --- [GP = Gross polluter limits] --- [MAX = maximum allowable emissions]

now what could cause these high HC and CO emissions? can anyone analyze for me? i guess time to go get a diagnosis, any smog station will help me correct?

Thanks In advance ppl.

Default What's up?

What kind of cat are you using? Stock Civic one, GS-R one? Was the P28 you were using a stock P28 SOHC VTEC ECU or was it chipped for a DOHC program (Skunk2, JUN ...). If it was chipped, that might be it. Those programs tend to run incredibly rich to compensate for a pair of extreme cams so that might be why your so off. See if you can find a stock P72 and retest. Also, if possible, try to keep the your engine/cat warm before they do the sniffer test. Cats take a while to heat up and work properly. I'm sure they take that into account while testing (I'm in PA and I have zero emissions testing) but something to try. Seeya.

Try a different cat. Were you using a DC header by chance?

well fellas, i knew i was gonna fail....why? because the ecu IS indeed chipped by the Mugen prog...

BUT, my question now is, can that ECU, ALONE cause all those high numbers in both HO and CO ?

and you bet i tried frying that cat, the trip to ESCONDIDO from the middle of SD is like 30 minutes

i guess i'll just have to research on the net about what causes those high numbers, the cat is fine, had it recently replaced from a muffler shop, and yes i have the correct 02 sensor on it as well....

Thanks for the replies fellas

it could, maybe not all of it thats pretty high but it could cause a huge change in how the motor reads at lower rmps duing the 15 mph test but not so much in the 25mph because the mugen program is the riches program i know as far as fuel might cause the cat and o2 to act up
