Default boggin and backfiring

ok guys, heres my big prob. my car sounds like its backfiring and bogging when at idle or whenever i cum to a stop. when u look at the engine and hear it it sounds normal and its not surgin or anything. but u can hear the backfiring and bogging cumin outa the exhuast. also the rpms fluctuate between 800 to 1000 back and forth then to 1200. i cleaned the iac and checked the fast thermo and all vaccum lines. what else could this be?????
thanks,
j

what do your plugs look like? this could be an indication of running rich or lean or have a cyl not firing correctly, there are any # of things that could cause it, do you have any codes etc..

You said the plugs are brand new, did you change the heat range of them?

If you don't know what heat ranges are, it's probably a safe bet you didn't change it. Disregard my statement.

How many miles on the plug wires, dist. cap/rotor? Also, if it was a misfire in a cylinder the CEL would come on wouldnt it? My friend had the same problem and it ended up being a bad rotor inside the distributor cap, one side was kind of chipped on the rotor so check that out.....it shouldnt be too much to change the cap and rotor should it need those... also, the fuel filters are usually an all or nothing type deal, they either work or they are clogged, but you could change it should it be in an easy place to get to on your car, how many miles do you have on the engine?
