Default octane vs. Emissions

I just took my car to the refferee and passed both the visual and emissions test, i failed the functional due to my check light comming on because of my knock sensor at the end of the test. My question is "does octane effect emmissions?" I was just thinking of throwing a bottle of octane booster in my tank so i could take the test and wouldnt have to worry about the engine pinging. timing is already low at 15 TDC.

in some cases, yes. octane reduces the fuel's ignition potential. it can result in more hydrocarbons in the exhaust stream if the increased octane is too high for current engine requirements.

odd tht you would get a knock sensor code if the engine knocks. i've only seen the code happen when the knock sensor is faulty.

That's because the amount of knock you need for the code to flag is so ridiculous you'd have to have put diesel in the car.

You might check out your knock sensor but hey... octane boost is cheap.

Default Yeah

Yes, check the knock sensor... We have noticed that they are easily broken...

so the check engine light comes on only because the knock sensor is faulty? confused. So octane booster wouldnt work. Where can i find cheap knock sensor, it was reaching under the manifold and it feels loose, dont think its supposed to be like that. Is there a way i can fool the computer to think there is a knock sensor?

If its loose, try tightening it up. Check the torque spec, it's probably important not to overtighten it. It's like a little microphone, & if it's loose it won't pick up anything. So if its loose, it might not really be faulty.
