Default Ignitor question

I have a used but good ignitor and my ecu is throwing the code for the ignitor and i was wondering if there is any specific way to install/replace the ignitor? or is it just take off cap and un-screw the ignitor and then take off all the wires then install replacement and just connect wires and screw in place? is that all? please help i wanna do this friday after school!!!!!

I can't give you exact details on why it works, but I do know that the ignitor is how the ECU communicates with the distributor. It's a type of relay.

And, to answer your other question, if the ignitor is bad, you get zero spark. So don't worry about whether it's bad. If your car starts, the ignitor is fine. Also, if it does go bad (which is not totally impossible), it's pretty easy to replace, it's held in by two little bitty hex-head screws. Just make sure to write down which wire goes where, cuz the ignitor has 4 different colored wires comin off of it.

well, if it's throwin a code, replace it, see what happens :dunno:

An ignitor from Honda is about 100 bucks. Before you replace it, try taking out the existing one and testing it with a multimeter. You can't return electrical components, so make sure that 100 bucks is properly spent.

Default MSD related HELP and Ignitor

Ok i replaced my ignitor tonight and the old one was covered in a greenish hard frozen powder... just wondering what that could be?

When i took off my MSD distributor CAP i noticed my red layering on the external coil part is getting smaller and i looked on the inside of the cap and i noticed it was almost making a internal coil again with the red layering. just wondering if i should keep my MSD ignition and blaster 2 coil on the CAP because it starts up very hard right away but i wanna know if i let it MELT or whatever it is doing with the red part, will it work fine pretty soon? also i looked in the INTERNAL coil hole and it was coverd in broken down parts from the red stuff but it was in crumbes... please help me.

ok 1 last thing for a while if all this gets answered... before i replaced my ignitor i was flashing a 1 code then it paused and then it blinked 15 times for the ignitor code and i replaced the ignitor but not code 1 which is O2 sensor and now when i look at my ecu there are NO blinks what so ever, so i'm wondering if that 1 code wasn't really the 1 code, it would blink first thing then pause then do 15 more blinks in a row.

Thanks for answering whoever helps a youngin out... later

So you changed your ignitor & now you get NO codes at all? Then I suppose code 1 (O2 sensor) was probably caused by it misfiring sometimes. Keep going & hope your code 1 doesn't come back.
