You may want to go to advanced auto and use their timing light, I think it's free...should be anyway.

If you look on the bottom of the MSD box it has a wiring diagram. but if you want to know the white wire is the trigger it should be connected to the wire that origionally went to the neg. side of the coil or ignition amp.

never had a external coil, i have a D16A6 and it had no external coil, and also i don't know what my ignition amp is
