Default Bad Starter?

So my friend has a 90 prelude that has been sitting for 5 months. The battery is dead and it needs a starter. We go get a started and change it out , hook up some jumper cables to it and it starts up after a little bit...but right when we remove the jumpers the volts start to go down and then the interior lights and dash go out, and then it stalls....sounds like a new alternator is needed or V/R, right? So we get a new alternator and change it out hook up the jumpers and crank it,.....nothing but clicking from the starter unhook the starter and look to see if the thing is popping out but its not. So did I get a defective starter?

If you are energizing the starter with a known good battery, then yes it's bad.

if you did all this and changed the battery, you would have to check the spark plugs, if it isnt that check the fuel injectors
unless you connected something wrong or the starter is bad itself
