Default good machine shop springs/retainers?

I am in chicago, and I was curious how much a typical machine shop will charge if I bring them my b18c1 head and my new springs and retainers to replace them.

Also, what is a good machine shop around chicago that would do this for a good price ???

If it's more than $50, you may want to just get a valve spring compressor and do it yourself:

Yup, it was recommended to me by someone who uses it on his B series heads, and I've doublechecked to make sure it works with my D series retainers as well. It comes with an air holder fitting if you're doing it with the head in the car, but you don't need that if the head is off the car.

Total head disassembly, cleaning, specing, hot tanking, and reassembly was around $250 at a local machine shop.

alright, the majority seem to think buying the tool and doing it myself is probably best. I went ahead and ordered one of those spring compressors. Hope it works out good!!
