head stud install

Default head stud install

I have a b18c in my 94 hatch. I just got ARP head studs.

do i torque the studs into the block before i torque the head bolts onto the head?

Most people put them in finger-tight with the lube that ARP gives you, but that can sometimes lead to the studs backing out if you don't get them in tight enough. I would tighten two nuts against each other and torque the studs to about 10 ft-lbs. In addition to making sure the studs are in tight, this will also make sure that they're all sitting at the same height, since it can be hard to do that if you're only putting them in finger-tight. Once you have the studs torqued to 10ft-lbs, install the head and torque it to whatever spec ARP recommends(it's usually higher than stock).
