Default valve springs removal???

I am trying to remove the valve springs and retainers from my gsr head. The head is already off the vehicle. The valve spring compressors I have tried are all to big or clunky and wont fit. any suggestions and/or tricks(without loosing a eye ) would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance..

You can't use just the plain old compressor, there are specific things involved. Here's what you need according to Helms:

The socket & mallet thing really does work.

A piece of PVC pipe with a notch cut out of the end of it and a magnetic wand works well. Press down in the retainer and then pluck out the keepers with the wand.

Have fun putting them back in

Call Goodson at 1800 533 8010 to oder part number CF10 for $43.99. it will fit in a 1/2 chuck drill press if you have access to one and what I do is slide a board under the head so I can tilt it to get the right angle then use the above spring compressor adapter to compress the springs. I will already have the locks sitting in the retainer and when I compress the spring just use a little non-magnetic pick to guide them in place. The job will still take a good amount of time though. Plan on at least an hour your first head. Oh yeah, I also use the socket and mallet method to remove the locks and have never had a problem with a bent or nicked valve. Just watch where the locks fly!
