Default vehicle speed sensor

ok here is the deal

im getting random drops on my speedo. i get the code for it too...but then i can reset the ecu and it wont come back for a long a$$ time. i dont get it. is a magnetic pickup sensor going out or what? its really pissin me off cause ive finally got all the little "bugs" worked out of alleys swap and now this thing is givin me fits. anyone know the symptoms of that sensor going bad? maybe a loose wire?? ive checked the wiring and unless its in the harness thats not the problem...its putting the engine in safe mode and flooding the crap out of it...this thing is about to piss me off

thanks for the help on the idle...i got it adjusted just right and it was running well for having long gears earlier....you could even hear the vtec enguage :chuckles: pretty impressive for a sohc

Hey im haveing the same problem, its really wierd, if i have all my accessories off then my speed will register, but if i turn on my lights or hit the brake, or turn on heaters, it drops to zero. then i get code 17, also, if your car reads under 2mph vtec wont engage, but when i reset the ecu, it goes away, and it works fine for a while, i did a swap also. ITS PISSING ME off as well, I hope we can find out what the problem is.....

Code 17 is for the Vehicle Speed Sensor. You either have a defective circuit going from the VSS to the ECU, an unplugged VSS, or a busted VSS.
