Depends if I'm running late... if I'm running late then I drive cold but mellow. If I'm running on time and it's cold, I'll let it idle for like 3-5mins. If I'm REALLY on time or actually early.... and it's cold out... I'll start it and then go back inside and finish getting ready... so about 10-20mins, by then there's at least two bars on the guage.

I sit in the car for maybe 10 sec, then I take it easy until my water temp is about 80 degrees C. My car sleeps in the garage, though, and Cali doesn't get allt hat cold. If it actually got below freezing here, and if I parked outside, I would probably let it idle for a bit before taking off.

I used to let mine idle for about 10 minutes on the first start of the day. If I was leaving school or something then I'd let her idle for about 5 minutes to make sure the turbo was doing good.

30-60 seconds is all that's needed. Essentially you want all hydraulics and pumps to become energized, the oil and coolant to have finished one 'circuit' through the engine, and the engine RPM to have dropped to about twice its warm idle (factory spec) RPM.

But I also like my heat to actually put out heat when I'm leaving also

in my 95 gsr manual it says that there is no need to warm up the engine unless you are in extreme cold. However i dont hit the vtec untill she has warmed up.

Once my engine is started I typically drive around easy until I start getting some water temperature, because the carbs, they no likey cold idling. But I don't mind, so long as I can get it started, I'll be fine [current temp records for getting it started: LOW: 12, HIGH: 110].

The CRX usually only runs when it's nice out. It's in a heated garage now, so there's no problem starting it...in winter she'll just idle in the driveway, no more salt for that car.
The Civic will just get driven once she's started. If it's really cold out (below 15 F) I'll usually let her idle just long enough to scrape off the ice or snow that's built up since the last time she was run.
The Rovers? Dunno, don't have them running yet...heh.

I'd love to start it up and go inside
but my del-sol got broken into the first 2 weeks I had it, so I'm naturally scared to walk away from it while it's running.

my old dodge daytona had a wierd key, in which I could start up the car, take the key out, and lock the doors.. I wish I could do that with my honda
